Unshakeable Faith of King David
‘For by You I can run against a troop,
By my God I can leap over a wall.’
Psalms 18:29 NKJV
Being a son/ daughter of God, we face challenges on a daily basis. Many of the believers have a notion that when anyone becomes a part of the Kingdom of God, all trials problem or issue that person has been facing, has come to an end. No more pain. No more challenges. Is it true?
As a matter of fact, the real challenges have just begun! Just now only the enemy declared war against you. Because you switched side to Yahweh from the enemy’s grip. Previously you served the adversary (satan). As long as we serve the enemy, we don’t have an opponent to face. The moment we take a step towards God, transferred to the kingdom of God (Light), the enemy has a new opponent now, that is You! Now he plans new schemes and strategies to bring you back to his kingdom (darkness). Some of his means to sway off children of God are deception, fear, lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, the pride of life and al sort of manipulation.
This specific scripture is profound when we ponder about king David. Prior to become a king of Israel, he didn’t have many challenges as he had as a king. This didn’t mean he didn’t have challenges at all. He had. David, as a shepherd boy had encounters with wild beasts such as Lion, bear etc. where God delivered him from them victoriously.
When David says this verse, he literally faces a humongous task. An army of Philistine. He is in a battlefield. Amidst of his lack of support from his own people or family, he has a strong conviction that his God is beside him. In fact, he believed already that task has been done successfully. He decides not to look at him. He chose to forget him. He strengthened himself in the Lord. Though his own naked eyes say it is impossible to fight against a troop of warriors by him alone. Though his own ears hear the roaring sounds of Philistines approaches him to destroy him in blink of an eye. David, the anointed one of God refused to believe himself. I strongly believe that at that moment the greatest fight he fought wasn’t against the philistines but against himself, his believe system, mindset, worldly truth whatever he acquired or learned since birth. He had to unlearn everything to hold on to the spiritual senses to perceive how great is His God. There David witnesses multitude of heavenly angels around him ready to engage in battle upon his word of faith. His statement is unique because David is ready to wait until his issue to get closer to him. He didn’t have patience for it. Additionally, he didn’t like to walk towards the challenge. Rather, David runs against the challenge and if the challenge seems humongous, he decides to climb over it because the battle is Yahweh’s alone! God whom he serves will surely deliver him from any challenge. Just like he believed, David was victorious in every battle faced in his lifetime.
If you ask me who is my favorite personality in the Bible, I will undoubtedly say, that is David (the shepherd boy, the second king of Israel, and a man after God’s own heart.) This man loved the Lord with his heart. He knows how Yahweh thinks and acts. In other words, David knew how to ‘handle’ this infinite, omnipotent, omniscient God. David’s life teaches us how we should be when we are in good and situations. What a beautiful thing to hear that God Himself called David a man after His own heart. How joyful David would have been when he heard that statement through the prophet Samuel.
Shiller’s Takeaway
I encourage everyone you when you face trials or any difficult situation, small or big, doesn’t matter, be not discouraged. Rather, encourage yourself with the experiences you had in the past where you broke through the difficult circumstances with the power of God. Ponder those small and big victories in the past where the Lord fought for you, and you came through it triumphantly. You think you are alone in the battlefield. Of course not! Like David, we see things differently than the world sees. We walk with our spiritual senses awakened (eyes, nose, ears, skin, heart of the spirit). When I fall into different trials in my life, I strengthen myself with one statement that Jesus spoke to His beloved friends & disciples before His crucifixion, that is:
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 NKJV
So, take every matter with the Lord. The life that you have as sons and daughters of God is an amalgamation of various things and the Lord love us to reign over these things while on earth, not to be biased as our Father God not to love only goodness but the bitter things that come along in your journey of life. Because our Abba Father uses the adversary to strengthen each of us through trials. Holy Spirit is in you. He will guide and walk you through every circumstance in love.
